Executive Chairman of METLEN, President Evangelos Mytilineos, confirmed that Eurometaux, the EU voice of non-ferrous metal producers and recyclers, will now operate under the name European Metals, marking a significant change in brand identity for the sector’s representative body. The association has used the Eurometaux name for nearly 40 years since 1988, although its institutional roots date back to 1957. According to Mr Mytilineos, the rebrand reflects both the evolving role of the metals sector and Europe’s changing industrial landscape.
“European metals are central to Europe’s future. They underpin the energy transition, the digital transition, and Europe’s security,” he said. Highlighting their cross-sector importance, he added that metals are embedded in grids and batteries, renewables and data centres, defence systems, buildings, and mobility, cautioning that “Europe cannot claim leadership in clean technologies while importing the materials and exporting the jobs.”
He further explained: “Our transition to European Metals reflects a deeper evolution - an industry that understands the world has changed and is ready to adapt; committed to competitiveness, and resilience, not as slogans but as operating principles.”
The new brand name reflects the association’s evolution in engaging with European institutions that support heavy industries to address cost challenges and complex raw materials scenarios.
Mr Mytilineos concluded: “We are proud of our legacy. We invest. We innovate. We decarbonise. We compete globally. When the world changes, serious industries do not stand still — they evolve!”
