Estimated N. American aluminum demand up 7.4% in first half: trade group

Preliminary estimates indicate that aluminum demand in the US and Canada (shipments by domestic producers plus imports) totaled an estimated 10.652 billion lb during the first half of 2011, 7.4% above the same period of 2010, according to the Aluminum Association.
Exports of aluminum ingot and mill products from the US and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) totaled 1.969 billion lb through June, 27.4% above last year, while imports totaled 1.964 million lb, up 7.1%.
