Encore RV has introduced a range of compact travel trailers featuring aluminium construction and designed to reduce the impact of towing on electric vehicle driving range.

The lineup was recently highlighted in a video by the Playing with Sticks YouTube channel, which focused on the trailers' lightweight aluminium build, low overall height and features intended to improve towing efficiency.

One of the models, the 12RKFB, is built to fit under a standard seven-foot garage door. Because of its lower profile, the trailer sits largely behind a pickup truck or SUV instead of extending above the roofline, reducing aerodynamic drag. It comes with a slide-out rear kitchen, an outdoor wet bath mounted on the front tongue and a 400-watt slide-out solar system.

The company also showcased the 14RKB, a version that is six inches taller and includes a full indoor, climate-controlled bathroom. Although it gives up some of the aerodynamic advantage of the smaller model, it keeps the same aluminium-based construction.

A third model, the 12BH, combines the lower height of the 12RKFB with a bunk-bed layout designed for family use.

According to Encore RV, the trailers are built without wood and instead use aluminium cabinetry and structural components. The company says the design helps keep weight down while maintaining durability.

The trailers also feature a DC-to-DC charging system that can draw power from the tow vehicle while it is in motion, allowing the onboard battery system to be charged during travel in addition to energy generated by the solar panels.

For electric vehicles, trailer shape plays an important role in energy consumption. Industry testing has shown that aerodynamic drag can have a greater effect on highway range than weight alone, as large, flat-fronted trailers create significant air resistance.

By keeping the trailers compact and lower to the ground, Encore RV is aiming to reduce that drag and make towing with electric pickups and SUVs more practical, particularly for longer journeys and off-grid camping.
