Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has secured a place in the World Economic Forum’s Global Lighthouse Network, a recognition reserved for manufacturing operations that have successfully embedded advanced technologies into day-to-day production. The announcement places the UAE-based producer among a small group of industrial players globally recognised for large-scale use of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) solutions.

The designation carries particular significance for EGA. It is the first industrial company in the UAE outside the oil and gas sector to receive Lighthouse status, and the first aluminium producer worldwide to join the network. This recognition clearly marks the company’s shift in focus from pilot projects to enterprise-wide deployment of digital and data-driven systems.

A sustained focus on capability building is driving this shift.EGA has invested in digital adoption for broad workforce development, instead of limiting it to any specialised team. To support this development,  more than  3,000 employees have been trained in areas including artificial intelligence, data-led decision-making and agile working practices, in order to create a technology base for consistently applying across operations.

Over the past three years, EGA reports generating more than AED 365 million (approximately USD 100 million) in value through the rollout of over 80 advanced digital use cases. These initiatives have also supported improvements in safety performance, product quality, and environmental outcomes across its facilities.

Following this initiative, operational gains at the  Al Taweelah site become evident. There, digital and 4IR-led interventions have reduced downtime by 50 per cent, by minimising non-productive time, which has also increased the equipment efficiency by 12 per cent.  Some of these results have been enabled by industrial technologies developed internally. Alongside this, EGA has implemented a new digital manufacturing platform that has transformed the economics of AI-driven image and video analytics, lowering costs by more than 80 per cent and increasing processing speeds by up to thirteen times compared with earlier systems.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said the recognition reflects the UAE’s growing influence in advanced industrial development. According to him, joining the  Global Lighthouse Network also opens up avenues to  collaborate with other leading manufacturers and share practical experience, helping to strengthen EGA’s competitive position in areas such as 4IR and artificial intelligence, while also supporting efficiency and sustainability goals.

Bin Kalban added that EGA launched its digital transformation strategy in 2021. Recognition from the World Economic Forum, he said, highlights the progress made since then in embedding advanced technologies across both industrial and commercial operations. The company continues to expand its technological capabilities, with a focus on improving performance and delivering stronger outcomes for customers and employees as it works towards world-class operational standards.
