ELYSIS wins “Breakthrough Solution of the Year” honour at Platts Global Metals Awards

ELYSIS, a technology company created by a partnership between two global industry leaders – Alcoa and Rio Tinto has been selected as the international “Breakthrough Solution of the Year” at the Global Metals Awards by S&P Global Platts, in London. The award is given to innovators as well those who have improved on an existing process remarkably.

Vincent Christ, Chief Executive Officer of ELYSIS regards the “The ELYSIS™ technology as the greatest breakthrough in the aluminium industry since its beginnings in 1886.

“It has the potential to completely revolutionize the global aluminium industry. We are pleased to see such an important organization, S&P Global Platts, recognizing it with this international award. It’s a great reward for all our talented and devoted professionals who are relentlessly working on a common objective of refining the technology, aiming to complete its development and bring it to commercial size by 2024,” he said while accepting the award with Rio Tinto and Alcoa.

The Global Metals Awards program honours excellence and accomplishments in the global metals industry.

With the “Breakthrough Solution of the Year” award category Platts acknowledges the work of an organization which has worked towards improving or innovating a promising metals production technology or process. Judges focus on the research, development and commercialization of ingenious and cost-effective ways to enhance any of the following objectives: greater efficiency, higher productivity, better quality and lower environmental impact.

ELYSIS’ goal is to renovate the way aluminium is produced across the globe in order to eliminate all direct greenhouse gases from aluminium smelting and instead produce pure oxygen.
