Dubal’s energy saving measures proving effective

Dubai Aluminium (Dubal), the state-owned aluminium producer, is forging ahead with the implementation of energy-saving initiatives in line with Dubai's Integrated Energy Strategy 2030.
Between April and December 2011, Dubal saved 6.9M kWh and a further 4.4M kWh from January to June 2012. Over a 15-month period, the company reduced its carbon emissions by 5,701 metric tonnes., saving a total of 11.4M kWh.
In 2011, potline energy consumption was 14.71MWh/tonne aluminium, a saving of 110,000MWh when compared to 2010's 14.82MWh/tonne aluminium.
The energy-conscious culture of the company has lowered power consumption and reduced levels of greenhouse gas emissions. Tayeb Al Awadhi, vice president of power and desalination, said that reducing Dubal's power consumption was crucial to remaining competiveness in the global marketplace.
