Net sales rose 25 per cent to USD 5.9 billion from USD 4.7 billion in the corresponding quarter last year, mainly due to higher average aluminium prices. Higher shipments of beverage packaging and aerospace products were partly offset by lower volumes in automotive and speciality products. Net income attributable to Novelis' common shareholders increased 29 per cent to USD 210 million, compared with USD 163 million a year earlier. Excluding special items, net income also rose 29 per cent to USD 146 million. Explore further insights and forecasts for the aluminium flat rolled products...

From raw resources to battery-ready materials: Australia's downstream ambitions take shape

Australia could turn more of its aluminium and copper resources into higher-value battery components, with a new report from national science agency CSIRO identifying opportunities to strengthen the country's domestic battery manufacturing capabilities. The report, The Future of Australian Battery Manufacturing: Cell Cans and Current Collector Foils, examines how Australia could use its existing industrial expertise, materials and manufacturing capabilities to produce key components for lithium-ion and emerging sodium-ion batteries. Rather than focusing solely on the country's critical mineral resources, the analysis explores practical ways to move further downstream and capture more value through local manufacturing. The opportunity comes as global demand for batteries continues to grow,...

Germany-France aluminium FRP trade 2026 at $692m: Two-way exchange of coil, sheet, foil and high-value products

Germany and France share one of Europe’s busiest downstream aluminium corridors, and the metal flows in both directions. In the first seven months of 2026, aluminium flat rolled products (FRP), which cover aluminium plates, sheets and strips (HS code: 7606), as well as aluminium foil (HS code: 7607), crossed the border each way, amounting to a total of around USD 692 million. However, the bilateral trade flow is tilted towards Germany, which remains France’s largest FRP supplier. Nonetheless, the inter-dependence remains as the countries do exchange the same products but engage in cross-border trade of specialised high-value products and alloys, feeding the demand on either side. The trade figures for January–July 2026, as compiled from the International Trade Administration, highlight...

Aluminum Buyers in Asia Seek Premium Cuts in 2012

"We are certainly looking at two-digit premiums next year. Spot physical metal supply has risen and spot premiums have fallen," said a purchaser at a semi-finished aluminum products producer in Asia. The firm also was worried that demand for aluminum products in the euro region and the United States would stay weak next year, cutting Chinese exports of semi-finished aluminum products and needs for primary metal imports, the purchaser said. A manager for a fabricating plant in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong said the firm had not accepted an offer of a premium just above $100 for delivery in the first half of next year. "Internally, we are bearish on next year's premiums because some LME stocks may come out and physical supply could rise," a trader at an international trading...

With Kizad zone, Abu Dhabi may put one past Dubai

Emirates Aluminium, or Emal, one of the largest aluminium companies, has set up a plant in this industrial zone. “It currently produces 750,000 tonne of aluminium and is slated to add another 750,000 tonne to its annual capacity within a short time,” says HE Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei, president and chief executive officer, Emal. Since aluminium is an energy intensive industry, the low energy costs in Abu Dhabi (estimated at under 5 cents per kWh compared to over 20 cents in India), will make aluminium production much more cost effective, he adds. Also, it wants to offer at least 30% of its production in liquid metal to downstream units, thus saving them additional costs involved in first purchasing billets, re-melting them and then making aluminium products. The rest of the production will...

Global Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors Market to Reach US$10.4 Billion by 2017, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.(GIA)

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors market. The global market for aluminum electrolytic capacitors is forecast to reach US$10.4 billion by the year 2017, driven by the rising demand for these products in end-use markets such as energy and environment, and their increasing use in products such as inverters. The lower price of these products, when compared to several other capacitor technologies, is also expected to remain a key growth driver in the following years. Other factors fuelling growth in the market include the shift towards flat panel displays in consumer electronics and computer markets, and the continued increase in sales of consumer products and personal computers.

Alcoa Creates Innovative All-Aluminum Bus Design for BYD’s New Electric Bus

Alcoa has declared that it has created a new all-aluminum bus design and space frame for BYD, reducing the body weight of the new BYD electric bus by around 1 t or 40%, when compared to steel components. The first two prototypes of the new BYD electric bus were introduced in Changsha City, Hunan Province in China. Alcoa has not only decreased the bus body weight but also has cut down the overall weight of the bus by 1.2 t by using its Huck Spin fasteners and Alcoa forged wheels. The reduction in overall weight will increase the electric bus’ overall range by a minimum of 10%, resulting in a range of roughly 300 km on a 100% charge. BYD intends to manufacture the electric bus in large numbers for the Chinese and Southeast Asian regions and also for the global market. Alcoa’s Bohai rolling...
