Germany-France aluminium FRP trade 2026 dips to $692m but specialised exchange holds strong

Germany and France share one of Europe’s busiest downstream aluminium corridors, and the metal flows in both directions. In the first seven months of 2026, aluminium flat rolled products (FRP), which cover aluminium plates, sheets and strips (HS code: 7606), as well as aluminium foil (HS code: 7607), crossed the border each way, amounting to a total of around USD 692 million. However, the bilateral trade flow is tilted towards Germany, which remains France’s largest FRP supplier. Nonetheless, the inter-dependence remains as the countries do exchange the same products but engage in cross-border trade of specialised high-value products and alloys, feeding the demand on either side. The trade figures for January–July 2026, as compiled from the International Trade Administration, highlight...

China power grid expansion will boost demand for Copper and Aluminium

Spending on China’s power grid, a major consumer of copper and aluminium is forecast to rise at a faster pace in 2013. The State Grid Corporation of China has increased its 2020 target to 94 500km of UHV lines laid compared with 78 000km in the previous target an increase of 21% Barclays said in a report. If realised this projection of faster grid spending should help boost copper and aluminium demand as UHV lines use copper clad aluminium cables. As the government has indicated that it will adopt a more selective approach to infrastructure spending and that the power grid is one of its favoured sectors actual spending could exceed the current target. On the other hand, if the NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) does not follow up on the policy statement with actual...

Aluminum is synonymous with economy in Electric cars

Aluminum structures are expensive and reserved for luxury cars. But in the case of electric cars, this overhead can lead to savings expenses. The equation is as follows: on an electric car, the battery is a very expensive and reducing vehicle weight, it is possible to use a smaller battery, and therefore less expensive. If the technology implemented in the relief is affordable, the price of the car will therefore decrease. According to a study commissioned by several associations of aluminum, European and international (EAA, FKA and IAI), the use of this material could well lead to savings despite rising its market price. The result is not spectacular, it amounts to 635 euros for a vehicle type segment Volkswagen Golf. A vehicle control, the use of aluminum has eased the car to 162 kg...

NTN Corporation develops first corrosion resistant bearing using aluminium bronze

Japan’s NTN Corporation reports that it has developed a corrosion resistant “Bearphite” material for use in environments that result in the fast corrosion of bearings, such as within gasoline. Motorised fuel pumps and exhaust gas recirculation devices (EGR) for automobiles and motorcycles are generally equipped with bronze sintered bearings or white cooper sintered bearings. Bronze sintered bearings become corroded by the organic acids contained within gasoline, while white cooper sintered bearings need to use expensive nickel. NTN has now successfully developed the world's first “Corrosion Resistance Bearphite” that delivers outstanding corrosion resistance using aluminium bronze without the need to use nickel. Aluminium bronze is a material that features outstanding corrosion...
