Sapa's welded aluminium tubes plant in Shanghai is the first among its local competitors to achieve both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification. In order to meet all the prescribed requirements, the Shanghai facility involved all employees in a full-year improvement program. The program included company policy, environmental and safety compliance, documentation, and work procedures. After successfully completing the audit process this past summer, the site received its new certificates in November. In 2010, the welded tubes plant had achieved both ISO 9001 and TS 16949. Now, with the additional certificates, the plant has set a benchmark for the tube welding industry in China. It is the only site among the local competition with both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliance. The Shanghai...

With huge aluminium power cable production capacities coming on stream in China, the lightweight metal is set to make further inroads in power cable industry to substitute copper, Shanghai Metals Market foresees. As uniform standards for all aluminium alloy conductors (AAAC) are being studied by Chinese government and are expected to be issued in the near future, substitution of copper by aluminium in power cables ``has become a sensitive and important topic’’, said Angela Wang, head of SMM’s copper desk. The proportion of aluminium power cables used in civil lighting, in particular, would increase as lower-income population opt for cheaper aluminium wires, Wang said. The market would favor copper cables again with increases in national and average household incomes, she added. The State...

The Nissan GT-R is a real game changer, a car that redefined the industry and had the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo and Audi R8 very worried as the cheaper, faster and remarkably well engineered supercar slayer burst on the scene from seemingly nowhere! Some may argue that as fast as the car maybe, it lack the visual drama and punch of other cars in the category. The car you see photographed here however, certainty seem to have added to the striking nature of the GT-R! The car has been lowered to start with, giving the GT-R a touch more aggression. This modification is hugely overshadowed by the stunning Brushed Red Aluminum 20? R10 Deep Concave Monoblock wheels that Strasse Wheels manufactured specifically for the car! They fitted the perfectly wide 20×10 front with the Michelin PSS...

Alcon Group, has chosen to partner with Rexam to launch MIO, a unique and refreshing lemonade flavoured milkshake. Recognising a gap in the market amongst teenagers and young adults for a carbonated milk based drink, Rexam and Alcon have worked together to produce an innovative can design to launch the first beverage of this type in Russia. The launch of MIO sees Rexam working with a dairy product, demonstrating the growing demand for the use of aluminium cans in the category. Produced out of Rexam’s Vsevolozhsk plant in Russia, the bright and concise design is being produced in a 33cl Sleek can. Nikita Volkov, MIO Marketing Director says, “It was great to work closely with Rexam to produce a can that represents our brand image – young, fun and dynamic. The aluminium can is the perfect...

China’s production of A356 aluminium alloys, used in making wheels, recovered in November following output cuts earlier and gains in silicon prices, Shanghai Metals Market has learned. A356 aluminium alloys output increased 3,300 tonnes from October to 100,800 tonnes this month, while average operating rate at Chinese producers added 0.86% month-on-month to 69.52%, according to SMM’s research team. Still, market supplies remained tight following earlier production cuts at major producers including CHINALCO’s Shandong and Baotou branches, Zhejiang Huadong Aluminium Co. and Chiping Hengxin Aluminium Co. At the same time, aluminium wheel producers increased buying ready-made alloys after recent gains in silicon metal prices made it less cost-effective for them to make themselves. Processing...

The Aluminium Federation (ALFED), the UK aluminium industry trade association, says that British aluminium manufacturers and suppliers should take advantage of the significant growth in demand for the metal in the automotive sector. Amongst the speakers were renowned motoring pundit Quentin Willson, leading industry academic Professor David Bailey and analyst Paul Williams, of London based CRU, which specialises in commodities analysis and consultancy. Mr Williams told the conference: “We can expect to see 5% year-on-year growth in aluminium demand for the foreseeable future, with...

Like a TV antenna's wad of tinfoil magically coming to life, aluminum Christmas trees sparkled and glowed in living rooms and front windows during their heyday in the 1960s and '70s. No need to traipse out to a tree lot and wrestle one home tied to the car roof. No needles littering the carpet. No need to worry about the family dog drinking out of the stand. Then, like any fad, they wore out their yuletide welcome and were forgotten in attics, tossed out in the trash or sold at garage sales for 50 cents. Now, they're hip again in a retro "Mad Men" way. Some aluminum Christmas trees are selling for $1,000 on eBay. Tapping into nostalgia for a time when Christmas trees looked as silvery and shiny as an astronaut, the Wisconsin Historical Society Museum is opening an exhibit on Tuesday...

In a report published Monday, Goldman Sachs analyst Sal Tharani upgraded the rating on Alcoa from Neutral to Buy, and raised the price target from $8.00 to $11.00. In the report, Goldman Sachs noted, “We upgrade AA to Buy from Neutral, on the back of strong growth from its high-margin downstream business and its continued transition to a mainly downstream business. We see a long-term value opportunity in Alcoa as the market begins to value AA as a leading downstream aluminum producer with an improving cost structure on the upstream, providing upside irrespective of continued weakness in the aluminum market. Downstream growth is expected to be driven by automotive and aerospace. We raise our 6-month P/E-, EV/EBITDA-, and DCF-based price target to $11 from $8 (21% upside) as we roll our...

Jaguar has introduced a five-seat version of its C-X17 concept at the 2013 Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The British marque is previewing the company's first ever crossover with the C-X17 which was originally presented a couple of months ago at IAA in Frankfurt. While that version came with a futuristic four-seat interior and a striking blue paint, the updated concept shown in China has a more conventional five-seat arrangement for the cabin and a different exterior paint scheme called "Liquid Gold." Just like before, the C-X17 concept rides on Jaguar's recently introduced iQ[Al] platform which makes extensive use of aluminum. The production version (due in a few years) is likely to receive a variety of 4-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines part of a new "hotfire" series that promise to...
