Kalzip ‘Foldables’ recertified by BBA

Kalzip has successfully retained BBA Certification for its ‘Foldable’ and roll formed aluminium building materials - Falzinc, Dark Falzinc and AluPlusZinc. With a minimum life expectancy of at least 40 years, these lightweight, low maintenance and sustainable materials are malleable, incredibly strong and easy to install by competent skilled workers. The materials are manufactured using a core of saline-resistant aluminium alloy electroplated on both sides with a thin layer of zinc and phosphate treated. This unique PEGAL process is patented by Kalzip and provides the materials with all the performance benefits of aluminium combined with the highly distinctive, aesthetic appeal of zinc. The combination of a zinc surface on an aluminium substrate eliminates most of the corrosion problems...

Hollaender's speed-rail handrail system recently installed at Philadelphia naval yard

More than 3,500 linear feet of aluminum railing was recently installed at the Philadelphia Naval Yard that runs along the historic Delaware River in Philadelphia, PA. The handrail system was constructed using Speed-Rail fittings and aluminum pipe from Hollaender Manufacturing. The new weather resistant handrail system is being used as guard rail along a section of the river that runs through the yard. Previously, a portion of the yard had been inaccessible to the public due in part, to the lack of an acceptable handrail system along the river. Simone Collins Landscape Architecture of Norristown, PA, designed the park, and needed a railing that would meet all building codes for public access and be durable enough to withstand the harsh elements common to the Northeast. The Speed-Rail based...

Jaguar Land Rover, Ford Motor on front lines of Aluminum Vs Steel battle

A battle is raging in the metals world, and not surprisingly, it is fiercest in the light-weighting of vehicles in the automotive sector – however, similar struggles can be seen across the transportation industry. In an effort to meet both customer expectations and meet gradually more stringent fuel efficiency legislation, car-makers are adopting a twin track approach of lower vehicle weight light-weighting and improved engine efficiency. An FT article quotes research done by Accenture saying consumer demand for more space, added features and improved safety has meant that average car weights have increased by about a quarter over the 30 years to 2006, yet fuel efficiency legislation is demanding weight reductions, not gains. Leading the use of aluminum is the UK’s Jaguar Land Rover...
