Ford has produced more than 5,000 large aluminium unicastings at its Shelbyville Technical Center as it advances manufacturing preparations for the Fathom midsize electric truck, scheduled to launch in 2027. The castings are being used for process testing and prototype assembly at the company's Louisville Assembly Plant. The Fathom will feature two large aluminium unicastings that replace 146 individual structural parts, significantly simplifying the vehicle's architecture. The United States aluminium crude metal and alloys imports from the United Arab Emirates fell for the second consecutive month in October 2020, according to the latest data revealed by the US Geological Survey. Data shows the imports decline by 8,500 tonnes or 26.73 per cent month-on-month to come in at 23,300 tonnes in October. In September, the imports were down by 1,900 tonnes or 5.64 per cent from 33,700 tonnes in August to 31,800 tonnes. In July, the United States imported 7,350 tonnes of aluminium crude metal and alloys from the UAE, meaning the imports in August witnessed a month-on-month jump of 358.5 per cent. Rio Tinto has announced the construction of new scandium oxide plant at its Rio Tinto Fer et Titane (RTFT) metallurgical complex in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. The company is set to the first producer of high-quality scandium oxide in North America. The commercial supply is likely to start in the second quarter of 2021.
