The US imports of crude metal and alloys stood at 250,000 tonnes in January 2021. That was a decline of 28% from 347,000 tonnes in January 2020, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. On a monthly basis, crude metal and alloys imports increased by 9% from December’s imports of 229,000 tonnes. The US imported 3.27 million tonnes of crude metal and alloys in 2020, as compared to 3.8 million tonnes in 2019. This marked a decrease of 13.95%. The European Union has reportedly imposed duties on Chinese aluminium products after determining the materials being sold at unfairly low prices. The news came on Tuesday, March 30, after the EU official journal announced that duties to be imposed on Chinese aluminium extrusions in the form of bars, rods, profiles or tubes by the European Commission would range between 21.2 per cent and 31.2 per cent. These tariffs are lower than the provisional duties of 30.4 per cent to 48 per cent levied midway through the anti-dumping investigation, which opened in February 2020 following a complaint from industry body European Aluminium. The European Aluminium Association praises the European Commission for its intention to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on certain flat-rolled products originating in China. Imports of unwrought aluminium and products stood at 455,128 tonnes in the first two months of 2021, Customs data showed on Thursday, March 18 2021.
