Crown Holdings Inc., a leading name in beverage packaging, food packaging, aerosol can packaging, and metal closures, has published its 2023 Sustainability Report titled ‘A Shared Purpose’. The report details the company’s global sustainability activities, such as initiatives to meet the carbon emissions reduction goal ahead of 2030.

Crown Holdings’ carbon emissions reduction goal is part of its Twentyby30 sustainability programme established in 2020. The programme includes 20 measurable sustainability goals with a timeline of the end of 2030, committing to reach 75 per cent usage of renewable energy to reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 43 per cent relative to 2019. To achieve this goal, investment plans include both on-site and off-site purchase power agreements.
All employees in the organisation have been encouraged to identify opportunities for emission reductions. Managers at manufacturing sites worldwide have established efficiency indicators as part of their annual performance review. They have also implemented a Best Practices programme for sites to highlight their outstanding operational achievements.
Besides climate action, Crown’s Twentyby30 sustainability programme also encompasses the collective efforts of the company’s global team towards improving resource efficiency, achieving optimum circularity, and accomplishing strong team bonds.
Tim Donahue, President, CEO & Chairman of the Board of Crown Holdings, said: “Our progress toward achieving our bold Twentyby30 goals is only possible with the commitment of our global team, and it is clear we have made strong strides together across our pillars of focus. Our stakeholders rely on our transparency regarding sustainability performance, and it is up to us to remain advocates for strong standards and high performance for sustainability.”
John M. Rost, Ph.D., Senior Vice President – Crown Technology, Global Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs, said: “Every day, we align our operations with our Twentyby30 sustainability goals and Crown’s Best Practices. This is evident by the progress highlighted in the ‘Teams at Work’ segments featured throughout the report. Our shared purpose goes beyond the walls of Crown – it extends to our industry partners, government bodies and consumers around the world who all have an impact on our climate. We are committed to driving progress in global recycling rates, which is a critical component to our sustainability success and the sustainability of our industry.”
