Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) declared a whopping investment of £ 31 million to incorporate a new high-end canning line at its Wakefield manufacturing unit. This line producing sustainable aluminium beverage cans will be fully optimised and functional by 2024.
The new line will have the capacity to produce 2,000 beverage cans per minute while keeping the energy and water utilisation in control. The ultra-modern canning line is smart enough to curtail carbon emissions.
A Coca-Cola spokesman stated: “The new line will provide additional production capabilities for CCEP’s light-weight 330ml cans, and advanced technologies will be incorporated into the line to help minimise energy, water and CO2 consumption.”
“Energy and water savings come from innovations such as air rinsing capabilities, dry lubrication on conveyors and an auto-sleep function on motors,” the person added.
“In addition to the 500-strong workforce at the site, the new line will create 28 roles and additional training to upskill the workforce,” the associate concluded.
At this moment, sustainability is at the heart of Global business development and with the advent of the Paris Environmental Act of 2015, it has been made clear that companies must pursue green methods to run their flagship production lines. Aluminium can be recycled infinitely with no material loss and can retain its original properties after vigorous transformational regimes, inducing a circular economy. Coca-Cola has been actively incorporating aluminium cans into its range of non-alcoholic and carbonated beverages. This is solely because the company is securing a green future for itself, which has sustainability and Net Zero at the top of its mind.
The MP for Morley and Outwood, Andrea Jenkyns, exclaimed: “I am delighted to see Coca-Cola’s substantial investment of £31 million in the Wakefield plant.”
“This demonstrates their unwavering confidence in the local economy and reaffirms their commitment to growth and job creation,” Jenkyns added.
“With new jobs on the horizon, this investment not only strengthens the plant’s position as the largest in Europe but also bolsters the region’s economic vitality. We applaud Coca-Cola for their vision and dedication to our community’s prosperity,” she ended the statement.
