Awareness programme for aluminium foil recycling is being spread out even to school students in York, the United Kingdom. The walled city in northeast England has designed a competition for primary school students during Christmas to make them learn the importance of recycling aluminium foil.
{alcircleadd}A little change has been brought to recycling in the city, meaning City of York Council now collects foil from residents in their kerbside collections. To promote this change, city councillors have collaborated with Alupro, not-for-profit organisation representing the UK’s aluminium packaging industry, to hold a competition for school students.
For the competition, participants will have to create Christmas themed A4 posters with used and washed aluminium foil and other art supplies. The poster design can be anything related to Christmas and must contain aluminium foil.
The winning student will receive prizes worth £50, and the school will receive £500 in vouchers to spend on sustainable supplies and activities. Similar prizes will also be given to runners-up.
City of York Council’s executive member for climate change, councillor Paula Widdowson said: “It is wonderful to see local schoolchildren being given the chance to learn more about recycling this Christmas. Our long-term vision is to create a cleaner, greener city."
Students can enrol for the competition through schools until January 31, 2023.
