
Despite an increase in alumina production in November, China’s alumina export stood down by 37.9 per cent from October, showed Shanghai Metals Market. China exported a total amount of 285,700 tonnes of alumina in November compared to 460,000 tonnes and above in October.

According to SMM, China’s total alumina production in November came in at 6.08 million tonnes, with average daily output at 203,000 tonnes. This marked a growth by 6.7 per cent from a year ago and 4.1 per cent from a month earlier. In October, China’s alumina production was at 6.039 million tonnes, with average daily output at 195,000 tonnes.
However, regardless the fall in China’s exports volume in November than the previous month, it stood 72 per cent higher than 166,000 tonnes in September, which was the then the highest monthly volume in 2018. China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) found China’s alumina output in September at 5.59 million tonnes, 7.4 per cent lower from October and 18 per cent from November.

In January-November, alumina exports amounted to 1.28 million tonnes with net exports of 820,100 tonnes, versus net imports of 2.67 million tonnes in the same period last year.
Customs data also showed that China imported 8.1 million tonnes of bauxite in November, up 22.64 per cent month-on-month and 38.14 per cent year-on-year.
This grew bauxite imports in January-November to 79.6 million tonnes, up 29.2 per cent compared to a year earlier.
