Chinalco’s photovoltaic power generation project gets connected to grid for optimisation

EDITED BY : MAYURAKSHI GANGULY 2MINS READ

On October 20th, a significant milestone was achieved in China with the official connection of the Luoyang Aluminum foil distributed photovoltaic power generation project to the grid for power generation. Built by the Fenghao Henan Branch of Ningxia, a subsidiary of Chinalco Environmental Protection, the project is a remarkable example of how technology can be leveraged to promote sustainability and environmental protection.

Construction of the same began in June this year, and since then, it has been the centre of various speculations. The project adopts the method of "spontaneous self-use and surplus electricity connected to the Internet", which is distributed in Luoyang Aluminum Foil No.1, No.2 and No.3 factory buildings, wooden box buildings, water pump houses, air compressor stations and the roofs of 10kV distribution rooms, with a total installed capacity of 2.313 MW.

This innovative approach is a combination of traditional monocrystalline silicon glass components with light, flexible components, which are tailored to match the different roof loads of the buildings.

The project consists of 980 monocrystalline silicon 550-watt glass components with a capacity of 0.539 MW and 3,413 lightweight, flexible modules with a capacity of 1.774 MW. The project was designed to ensure that it can provide 2.48 million kWh of green electricity for Luoyang Aluminum foil annually, saving 892 tonnes of standard coal, reducing 598 tonnes of carbon emissions and 2,192 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The project is an excellent example of how technology and innovation can be harnessed to promote sustainability and environmental protection. The remarkable energy-saving and emission-reducing effects of the project will undoubtedly inspire other industries to adopt similar measures to reduce their carbon footprint and promote environmental protection.
