
China, being a net importer of alumina, witnessed an increase in alumina import in July 2017, according to the latest import-export data published by China General Customs. China’s import of alumina totalled 284,504 tonnes in July 2017, up 29.36 per cent year-on year. January-July imports were down at 1.67 million tonnes.
Australia exported maximum volume of alumina to China. The country imported 127,158 tonnes of alumina in July and 724,162 tonnes during January-July, down 39.73 per cent year-on-year, showed China Customs data.
{alcircleadd}Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Germany and France were the other top countries which supplied alumina to China.

China’s alumina exports were down in July 2017. China exported 2,979 tonnes of alumina in July 2017, down 33.76 per cent YoY. In January-July period, the volume totalled 30,451 tonnes, down 39.81 per cent YoY.
South Korea purchased a major chunk of Chinese alumina totalling 9,558 tonnes during January-July 2017, up 10.43 per cent YoY. Japan imported 637 tonnes of alumina in July, up 36.62 per cent YoY. During January-July, the volume totalled 5,689 tonnes, up 117.05 per cent YoY.
Other countries that imported alumina from China were Turkey, the USA, Taiwan (China), North Korea and Vietnam.
