Chevron Australia has entered a new natural gas supply agreement with South32’s Worsley Alumina business, reinforcing the importance of reliable energy supplies to Australia’s alumina refining industry. The deal will support operations at the Western Australian facility, where energy availability remains central to mineral processing and industrial activity.

Under the contract, Chevron will supply natural gas to South32 Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd from 1 January 2028. The arrangement continues a longstanding commercial relationship between the companies, with the fuel allocated to the alumina producer’s processing requirements.

Chevron Australia President Balaji Krishnamurthy said, “Our agreement with South32 is another demonstration of the way LNG developments, under WA’s long-standing domestic gas policy, have enabled a well-supplied domestic gas market, powering homes and businesses, and supporting the major industries that underpin the state’s economy.”

He added, “As WA’s energy system evolves, natural gas will continue to play a vital role in providing reliable energy and supporting the industries that underpin the state’s economy for decades to come.”

Chevron’s Western Australian portfolio includes its operated Gorgon and Wheatstone gas facilities, which collectively account for approximately 40 per cent of the state’s domestic gas supply. The company has also pursued long-term supply arrangements with other local customers, including Horizon Power and Alinta Energy, as it continues to serve industrial and energy-sector demand.
