Canyon Resources has requested a voluntary trading halt in its securities on the Australian Securities Exchange as it prepares an update on the development schedule and funding position of its Minim Martap Bauxite Project in Cameroon.
{alcircleadd}The halt will remain in place until the planned announcement is released or normal trading resumes on August 20, 2026. The move indicates that Canyon expects to disclose information that may be material to investors, particularly regarding the timing of mining and the project’s first bauxite shipment.
Investors await schedule clarity
The upcoming announcement will be closely watched because Canyon’s project timeline has changed during 2026. In June, the company said mining was scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026, while the first bauxite shipment remained targeted for the fourth quarter.
That schedule depends on several linked workstreams, including trial mining, completion of the ore haulage road and Inland Rail Facility, rail commissioning, and upgrades to port infrastructure at Douala.
Canyon said in June that locomotives had arrived in Cameroon and that a six- to eight-week commissioning, testing and operator-training programme would follow. The first 60 rail wagons were scheduled to arrive in mid-August, with the remaining 100 wagons expected in the late third quarter.
The company’s Stage 1 rail fleet is planned to comprise seven locomotives and 160 wagons, with a transport capacity of about 35,000 tonnes per month. Canyon also said that construction of the haulage road, Inland Rail Facility and port dredging was scheduled for completion in late third quarter, supporting the first shipment target in the fourth quarter.
The new announcement should clarify whether these milestones remain achievable and whether the expected shipment timing or production ramp-up has changed.

Funding becomes a central issue
Canyon says the initial Minim Martap development phase is supported by a funding package of approximately USD 160 million comprising debt and equity, including a USD 140 million debt facility. The company’s website describes this package as sufficient to commence operations and make the first bauxite shipment.
That initial funding should be distinguished from the next expansion phase. Canyon’s June 2026 development update says Stage 2 is subject to securing an additional USD 160 million. The expansion would involve rail infrastructure upgrades and the delivery of 15 additional locomotives and 400 wagons, increasing rail capacity from approximately 35,000 tonnes per month to about 105,000 tonnes per month by early Q3 2027.
The company’s project page also cites an initial capex estimate of USD 97 million from its definitive feasibility study. That figure is a project-study estimate and should not be treated as identical to the total funding package, which may cover a broader set of costs and financial requirements.
The upcoming announcement is expected to clarify the amount of Stage 1 funding already drawn or committed, the remaining expenditure required before first shipment, and whether Canyon has identified a financing route for the additional USD 160 million needed for Stage 2. Until the company releases those details, the precise status of available cash, undrawn debt and future funding commitments cannot be independently confirmed.

A high-grade project with major ambitions
Minim Martap is located in Cameroon’s Adamawa Region near the rail line linking the project area with the Atlantic port of Douala. Canyon describes the project as a high-grade, low-contaminant bauxite development intended to supply the alumina and aluminium industries.
Those figures refer to different categories: the ore reserve is the economically mineable portion reported under the relevant technical assumptions, while the larger mineral resource includes material at varying levels of geological confidence and is not equivalent to immediately mineable production.
The project’s commercial success also depends on its mine-to-port logistics chain. Canyon has been developing a system involving road haulage from the mine to an inland rail facility, transport along the existing rail corridor to Douala, and port handling and export infrastructure. The company has also increased its equity interest in Camrail, Cameroon’s primary rail operator, from 9.1 per cent to 26.9 per cent, according to its June update.
