The VADELATA for the Planet Lab will make aluminium can collection and recycling easier.

The project's construction has officially begun, with a ground-breaking ceremony performed this week.

The 4,300ft² facilities, which is set to open, next year, will include drop-off and pre-processing areas for aluminium cans, as well as display spaces and conference rooms for lectures and seminars.

The plant will recycle over 100,000 pounds of aluminium in its first year of operation. It also aims to provide locals and visitors with a greater awareness of sustainable practises.

“As part of the company’s recently announced 2030 sustainability goals and industry vision for circularity, the innovative VADELATA for the Planet Lab will demonstrate what’s possible when we invest in and prioritise aluminium recycling,” said Fauze Villatoro, the vice-president of Ball Corporation and South America commercial and sustainability.

“The resources within this lab will allow us to create a circular economy that will make a difference in the lives of residents and tourists in Brazil and contribute to a more sustainable planet. By building a more innovative and effective way to collect beverage aluminium cans and educating consumers about the importance of recycling, we can help solve the packaging waste crisis,” added Fauze Villatoro.

Novelis, AMA, and Minalba are all sponsors of the initiative, with Ball collaborating with the Fernando de Noronha Municipality and Noronha for the Planet Consortium. All proceeds from can scrap sales will be used to fund can collecting as well as other social and educational programmes for the island population.

Outlook For The Indian Aluminium Industry

Earlier this month, Ball announced plans to build an aluminium beverage packaging factory in North Las Vegas, Nevada. For a variety of beverage clients, the plant will produce a variety of sophisticated can sizes. Its building will start next year.
