Leading supplier of aluminium packaging, Ball Corporation received two awards at Paris Packaging Week for projects involving carbon-free aluminium smelting technology and a recyclable refill cartridge system for personal care products.

The first award came from AEROBAL, which honoured a three-way collaboration between Ball Corporation, Alcoa Corporation, and Unilever for the project that piloted the use of ELYSIS carbon-free smelting technology for the first time in the personal and home care packaging industry. By eliminating direct greenhouse gas emissions from the aluminium smelting process, ELYSIS produces oxygen as a byproduct instead of CO₂.
Aerosol cans made through this process consist of 50 per cent ELYSIS primary aluminium and 50 per cent post-consumer recycled content, reducing carbon intensity compared to conventionally produced cans. The approach offers an option for brands targeting Scope 3 emissions reductions.
Victoria Marletta, VP Commercial Personal & Home Care at Ball Corporation, said the project demonstrated that decarbonisation and commercial viability could be achieved together.
"This project combined a high level of recycled content and low-carbon primary aluminium — both key for decarbonising aluminium packaging," she said. "It also reflects our belief that aluminium has the potential to help deliver a world free from waste."
The second recognition came via the ADF Innovation Awards 2026 in recognition of Natulim, the first company on the Iberian Peninsula, adopting Ball’s MEADOW KAPSUL refill system. It received a certificate for excellence in packaging innovation in the personal care category.
The MEADOW KAPSUL system produces pre-filled cartridges for durable, reusable dispensers using aluminium blanks supplied by Ball. The system reduces material and energy consumption relative to single-use alternatives when the dispenser is reused sufficiently. It also simplifies supply chain logistics and supports circular retail models.
Victor Ljungberg, co-founder and CEO of Meadow, said,"We realised that a widely available, sustainable and compliant packaging solution already existed.”
He further added, “Our goal then became to broaden its use beyond the beverage sector while ensuring consumers still benefit from an intuitive and convenient user experience."
