Average alumina spot price in China dwindles two days in a row: Input costs remain steady

After hovering at RMB 2998 per tonne from 1^st of June to 6^th of June, 2018, the average alumina spot price dwindled two days in a row, according to Shanghai Metals Market. While on June 7, the average alumina spot price plunged from RMB 2998 per tonne to RMB 2954 per tonne; on June 8, it further dipped to RMB 2904 per tonne.

Despite the alumina spot price lowered on two consecutive days, the price had otherwise been reflecting a steady sentiment, with no frequent ups and downs. From the beginning of May till the mid, the average alumina spot price hovered at RMB 3118 per tonne. Then it dipped to RMB 3094 per tonne followed by RMB 3065 per tonne which continued almost till the end of the month. The month of June also displayed a steady alumina spot price, drifted at RMB 2998 per tonne and RMB 2954 per tonne at the present.

All the major Chinese markets saw the alumina price drop as well, including east, central, north and south. In the east, the alumina price dropped to RMB 3000 per tonne and RMB 2950 per tonne after the 6^th of June; in central and north, it decreased to RMB 2950 per tonne on 7^th of June and RMB 2900 per tonne on 8^th of June and to RMB 2940 per tonne and RMB 2890 per tonne respectively. The south Chinese market stood as no exception either, as the alumina spot price there dipped from RMB 2995 per tonne, as on 6^th of June, to RMB 2985 per tonne and RMB 2960 per tonne on 7^th and 8^th of June respectively.

As far as the input costs are concerned, they had been exhibiting a steady price range over time. The alloys price grew on 7^th of June from RMB 15800 per tonne to RMB 15850 per tonne and continued till the 8^th of June, pre-baked anode price and aluminium fluoride price, on the other hand, remained unchanged.
