According to the International Aluminium Institute, alumina production in South America stood at 945,000 tonnes in November 2021, a decrease of 40,000 tonnes or 4.06 per cent from a month ago. In October, the output in South America was 985,000 tonnes, which was up by 12.70 per cent from 874,000 tonnes in September. On a year-on-year calculation, alumina production in South America during November 2021 was 35,000 tonnes or 3.57 per cent lower than 980,000 tonnes. According to a recent report, the premium for aluminium shipments to Japanese buyers for January to March 2022 is agreed at $177 per tonne, down by 20 per cent from the previous quarter, in line with weaker domestic spot premiums and overseas prices. The news came after six sources directly involved in pricing talks reported this. In the last quarter ended December 31, 2021, the premium was set at $220 per tonne increase by 19 per cent from $185 per tonne in the September quarter. Vedanta Aluminium signs contract with GEAR India to install lithium-ion forklifts at Jharsuguda smelter
According to a recent report, Vedanta Aluminium Business has entered into an agreement with GEAR (Gemini Equipment and Rentals Private Limited) India to install one of the largest fleets of lithium-ion battery-powered electric forklifts. Vedanta is the first in Indian aluminium industry to undertake such an initiative to replace its diesel-fuelled forklifts. Vedanta will commission the 23 new green fleet forklifts in a phased manner over the next few months at its aluminium smelter in Jharsuguda, Odisha. According to official sources, three alumina refineries in China are set to commence or increase production in the first quarter of 2022.
