Echoing the last year’s trend, the world metallurgical-grade alumina production in August 2025 recorded a month-on-month rise, touching an all-time high. Notably, the output neared 12.5 million tonnes, with daily average production above 400,000 tonnes. The monthly production stood above 12 million tonnes earlier in July, March, and January of this year, but daily output above 400K occurred for the first time ever.
However, it is to be noted that although the production in August followed last year’s M-o-M growth trend, the rate of expansion was marginally below the 1.54 per cent achieved in August 2024.
According to the data shown by the International Aluminium Institute, the world alumina production in August 2025 stood at 12.495 million tonnes, led by daily average output of 403,100 tonnes. The monthly output in August saw M-o-M increase of 1.17 per cent from 12.351 million tonnes and Y-o-Y hike of 5.61 per cent from 11.831 million tonnes. Similarly, daily average output was 1.18 per cent higher M-o-M and 5.6 per cent up Y-o-Y.
The cumulative output of metallurgical-grade alumina across the world through the first eight months of 2025 was 95.119 million tonnes, up by 4.6 per cent annually from 90.932 million tonnes. Chemical-grade output also saw a rise in eight months from 5.955 million tonnes to 6.076 million tonnes, reflecting a gain of 2 per cent.
