ASI certifies Shanghai Shenhuo Aluminium Foil against ASI Performance Standard

A press release from Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that Shanghai Shenhuo Aluminium Foil Co., Ltd. has been successfully certified against ASI’s Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. This is the second company in China to achieve Certification to the ASI Performance Standard, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability. The company manufactures wide and super-thin aluminium foil used in packaging for food and drinks, cigarettes, as well as medicine and cosmetics.

Shanghai Shenhuo Aluminium Foil Co., Ltd. is a joint venture, founded by Henan Shenhuo Group and Shenmei International investment Co., Ltd (Hong Kong). The independent, third-party audit of Shanghai Shenhuo Aluminium Foil was carried out by DNV GL.

The ASI Certification is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the global aluminium value chain. The program has been developed over the years through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “ASI congratulates Shanghai Shenhuo Aluminium Foil Co., Ltd. as the second China-based member to achieve ASI Performance Standard Certification. It is encouraging for us to see certifications grow in China, and this shows that the required practices are already in place and are independently verifiable on the ground.”

The leader of Shanghai Shenhuo Aluminium Foil, Mr. Frank Chen said, “Through achieving the ASI certification, we further demonstrate Shenhuo's commitment to responsible production, sustainable management and continuous improvement in this industry. We will take it as the first step and continue to promote and optimize our whole aluminium industry chain to build up a world-class responsible producer of Aluminium Foil.”

It is a positive development that Chinese companies are getting more aware of the environment, best practises and sustainability in production and ASI is optimistic about this trend in the biggest production hub for aluminium and aluminium products.
