Aluminum Association highlights for North American downstream market

Shipments of Aluminum Extruded Products (extruded shapes, pipe & tube, and rod & bar) by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled an estimated 388.4 million pounds during July 2014, an increase of 7.3 percent over the July 2013 total of 362.1 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments were off one-tenth of one percent from the June 2014 revised total of 389.0 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through July 2014 totaled 2,641.6 million pounds, up 6.9 percent over the 2013 year-to-date total of 2,470.0 million pounds.
Estimated shipments of Aluminum Forgings and Impacts by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 27.5 million pounds during July 2014, an increase of 7.2 percent over the July 2013 total of 25.7 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments declined 1.1 percent from the June 2014 total of 27.8 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through July 2014 totaled 191.9 million pounds, up 12.7 percent over the 2013 year-to-date total of 170.3 million pounds.
Preliminary estimates indicate that aluminum demand in the United States and Canada for semi-fabricated (mill) products totaled 8,372 million pounds, up eight-tenths of one percent. Apparent consumption (demand less exports) in domestic markets totaled an estimated 10,714 million pounds, increasing 4.1 percent.
