
In modern times, recycling aluminium from scrap has become a vital component of industry and has been a practice since the early 1900s. However, the process was a low profile undertaking until the 1960s, when the recycling of aluminium beverage cans finally came into the limelight. The most common item that is collected and brought to a scrap yard is aluminium cans, as it is very commonly available from beverages and food cans. The other sources for the recycling of aluminium scrap include - automobiles, appliances, windows and doors, and other products.

The foremost export of the Dominican Republic is ferronickel, aluminium and other metal scraps, jewellery, medical equipment, etc. The country’s major export partner remains the USA with over 60% of its trade, while the other import destinations for Dominican Republic’s aluminium scrap are Colombia, Thailand, Greece, Italy, South Korea, Spain, etc.
The Caribbean nation Dominican Republic exported 28,111 tonnes of aluminium scrap from during 2019-21, drawing earnings of around $15.63 million from the export of scrap.

In 2019, Dominican Republic exported aluminium scrap of 10,419 tonnes, which recorded an inflow of revenue of $4.16 million, whereas, in 2020, the export depicted a decline by 10.11%, as the export volume plunged to 9365 tonnes, earnings denoted a dip at $4.2 million.
The export of aluminium scrap by the Dominican Republic in 2021 demonstrated a further nosedive by 11.08%, as the export volume of scrap dropped to 8327, while revenue generation increases to $7.27 million.
Dominican Republic’s export of aluminium scrap for 2022 is analysed with a shove of 4.98%, as the export volume of scrap is envisioned to remain at 7912 tonnes, predicting earnings to peak at $9.02 million.
