Aluminium rolled products demand to grow at CAGR 5% through 2020

Global consumption of aluminium rolled products amounted to 23.8 million tonnes in 2015, increasing 5.1 per cent year-over-year. Packaging industry contributed the largest proportion to aluminium rolled products consumption (41 per cent), followed by the transportation sector (23 per cent).
China, as the world’s most important aluminium processing and consumption base, produced 10.70 million tonnes of aluminium sheets & strips and 2.665 million tonnes of aluminium foils in 2015, a year-on-year rise of 8.5 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively. Thanks to rapid growth in demand from automobile, MU (Multiple Units), urban rail subway, and airplane markets, the transportation, in the current fiscal year, will generate the largest demand for aluminium rolled products over the next four years with its share increasing to 21 per cent.
Due to technical constraints, Chinese producers of aluminium rolled products presently, focus mainly on blank and mid- to lower range products markets, compared with predominance of foreign players in high-end aluminium sheets/strips market. Domestic enterprises have strengthened their presence in high-end aluminium sheets & strips and foils like automotive aluminium sheets and aerospace aluminium sheet in recent years.
