
North America’s primary aluminium production increased by 6.08 per cent year-on-year to 314,000 tonnes in February 2020. The output fell by 4.85 per cent from January’s production of 330,000 tonnes.
The output in the first two months of 2020 stood 3.54 per cent higher than the same period last year. The production totalled 644,000 tonnes, from 622,000 tonnes in the first two months of 2019, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).

In 2019, the output stood at 3.809 million tonnes, an increase of 0.93 per cent from 3.774 million tonnes in 2018.
South America’s primary aluminium production increased by 9.76 per cent year-on-year to 90,000 tonnes in February. On a month-on-month comparison, the output dropped by 8.16 per cent from 98,000 tonnes in January. Primary aluminium production rose from 164,000 tonnes in January-February 2019 to 188,000 tonnes in January-February 2020.
Primary aluminium production declined from 1.164 million tonnes in January-December 2018 to 1.079 million tonnes in January-December 2019. That was down 7.3 per cent year-on-year.
