
North America’s primary aluminium production stood at 334,000 tonnes in October 2020, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). This marked an increase of 5.7 per cent year-on-year. On a month on month basis, the output rose by 5.36 per cent from September’s production of 317,000 tonnes.

The output totalled 3.310 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2020, from 3.174 million tonnes in the first ten months of 2019. The production stood 4.28 per cent higher than the same period last year.
In 2019, the output stood at 3.809 million tonnes, an increase of 0.93 per cent from 3.774 million tonnes in 2018.
In South America, primary aluminium production reduced by 12.87 per cent year-on-year but up 6 per cent month-on-month to 88,000 tonnes in October 2020. The output of decreased from 888,000 tonnes in January-October 2019 to 829,000 tonnes In January-October 2020.
Primary aluminium production declined from 1.164 million tonnes in January-December 2018 to 1.079 million tonnes in January-December 2019. This marked a drop of 7.3 per cent year-on-year.
