Alumina prices on the rise in China, saleable alumina stocks remain low in September

Shanghai Metals Market Statistics shows the average spot alumina price has been rising continuously from September 1 to stand at RMB 2958/tonne for the month average. On September 19, Thursday, the average alumina price stands at RMB 3353/tonne, an increase from RMB 3325/tonne yesterday.

Alumina price from large scale alumina enterprises too is on upward track through August and September.  On September 19, Chalco alumina price stands at RMB 3310/tonne from RMB 3290/tonne yesterday and is expected to move within a range of RMB 3,290- 3,330/t.

In the imported alumina market; average price stands at RMB 2974/tonne and today’s price stands at RMB 3300/tonne, up from RMB 3250/tonne yesterday.

According to SMM statistics, alumina stocks in China totals 389,800 tonnes in September. Alumina producers in Guangxi province hold more stocks than those in other regions. However, out of that stock at producers in Guangxi, saleable alumina stock is still low after separating the alumina reserved for new aluminium capacity.  

As for other raw materials are concerned, Average prebaked anode prices in East Chin, Central China, Southwest China and Northwest China market remain flat at RMB 4415/t, RMB4220/t, RMB4275/t and RMB4600/t today after a rise last week.  

Bauxite prices in Shanxi and Henan province have registered a slight rise today.
