Alumina and bauxite prices drop in China following downtrend in aluminium prices

Spot Alumina prices in China are dropping steadily through November continuing in December, following the downtrend in aluminium.

As updated by Shanghai Metals Market, average spot alumina price in China has dropped from RMB 3370 per tonne on December 5 to RMB 3348 per tonne on December 6. Domestic spot alumina prices have also dropped to RMB 3330/t from RMB 3355/t since October 24. Domestic prices are expected range within RMB 3280 – 3380 per tonne today.

Imported alumina prices and Chalco alumina prices remain unchanged despite the drop in domestic prices. The fall in domestic alumina prices can be seen in the following table.

A00 ingot prices in China has plunged low from RMB 14,410/t on December 5 and stands at RMB 14,040/t today. In East China’s spot market aluminium is trading at a discount of RMB 140-100 per tonne.

Other than alumina, bauxite prices in Shanxi and Henan provinces have registered a drop of RMB 5 to RMB 20 per tonne. Imported bauxite price CIF China has also registered a drop of USD 0.2 per tonne. Prebaked anode prices remain unchanged in all markets in China.
