Alpart to open second alumina refinery & aluminium foil plant
<p>Alumina Partners of Jamaica (Alpart) is setting up a new facility in Jamaica. Jamaican Finance Minister Audley Shaw made the disclosure at a town hall that the company is expected to build second alumina refinery soon.</p> <p>The new alumina plant is expected to produce 2,000 tonnes of alumina every year. He further added that this new facility would add company&rsquo;s total alumina production of 3,600 tonnes per annum.</p> <p><img style="vertical-align: middle; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://www.alcircle.com/uploads/images/Alpart-2.jpg" alt="news" width="448" height="226" /></p> <p>Apart from alumina refinery, Audley Shaw stated that Alpart is also planning to construct a plant that would produce aluminium foil.</p> <p>This project would create thousands more employment opportunities to the Jamaicans. Around seven hundred people have already got jobs with the reopening of Alpart.</p> <p>{googleAdsense}</p> <p>Alpart&rsquo;s capacity, prior to its shut down in 2009, was 1.65 million tonnes of alumina and 4.9 million metric tonnes of bauxite that it sourced from its own mines.&nbsp;</p> <p>In the last quarter of 2016, Russian aluminium giant Rusal completed the sale of its Alpart alumina refinery in Jamaica to JISCO for US$299 million.</p>
