
In March 2021, Africa’s primary aluminium production came in at 131,000 tonnes, bringing the total production in Q1 2021 to 385,000 tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute. Africa’s aluminium production in March reflected a month-on-month increase of 10,000 tonnes or 8.26 per cent. The output in February stood at 121,000, which was low by 12,000 tonnes or 9.02 per cent than 131,000 tonnes in January.

On the other hand, despite the month-on-month growth in Africa’s primary aluminium production in March 2021, total output in the first quarter failed to record a hike but decreased by 7,000 tonnes or 4.23 per cent from 402,000 tonnes in Q1 2020.
On a year-on-year basis, Africa’s production in March 2021 also registered a downfall of 8,000 tonnes or 5.76 per cent from 139,000 tonnes.
Total primary aluminium production across the world in March 2021 amounted to 5.725 million tonnes, up by 10.37 per cent month-on-month from 5.187 million tonnes and 4.97 per cent year-on-year from 5.454 million tonnes.
Total output in Q1 2021 stood at 16.639 million tonnes – 3.57 per cent higher than 16.065 million tonnes during the same period last year.
