US aluminium buyers are bearing much of the cost of the country’s 50 per cent tariff on imported aluminium, according to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who sees the resulting price pressure as a potential opening for a wider trade agreement between Canada and the US. This is to restart operations at the former Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) bauxite mine and move forward with plans to build an alumina refinery.
