PT Hua Chin Aluminium Indonesia is steadily carving out its space within Indonesia’s fast-growing industrial metals sector, with a strong focus on operational discipline and long-term supply stability. At the core of its operations is a tightly structured procurement system that secures not only primary raw materials but also critical auxiliary inputs essential for smelting efficiency.

In this interview, the company highlighted that operational stability is built on a structured procurement framework that secures both primary raw materials and key auxiliary inputs required for smelting. This diversified sourcing strategy is designed to reduce exposure to freight volatility and trade uncertainty, ensuring uninterrupted operations even during external disruptions.

A key milestone in its development is progress toward London Metal Exchange (LME) deliverable brand status, which strengthens its positioning in the global primary aluminium supply chain. On the market side, Hua Chin continues to expand beyond its established regional footprint. Read below to know more about its supply chain strategy, LME progress, and global market expansion plans.

AL Circle: Supply chain disruptions, freight volatility and trade policy changes have made aluminium procurement more complex. How is PT Hua Chin Aluminum Indonesia approaching supply chain resilience and export market planning? Which part of the world would be your main target for exports?

Hua Chin: HuaChin Aluminum has established a highly efficient supply chain system. Our procurement strategy covers not only major bulk commodities but also a wide range of auxiliary materials critical to aluminium smelting. This ensures a consistent supply of raw materials, thereby safeguarding the steady and continuous operations of our plant. In terms of market strategy, we are firmly rooted in the Southeast Asian and Japan–Korea markets, while at the same time extending our reach to cover the European and American markets.

AL Circle: Tsingshan has reportedly applied to make aluminium produced by the Hua Chin smelting joint venture in Indonesia deliverable on the London Metal Exchange. What does this potential LME registration mean for Indonesia’s credibility as an emerging primary aluminium supply hub?

Hua Chin: HuaChin has been officially included in the London Metal Exchange (LME) brand registration list, with full status as an official deliverable brand expected this September. To strictly align with delivery warehouse and registration specifications, we have upgraded our packaging to high-strength plastic-steel strapping, which will further elevate our brand equity.

As the first foreign-invested aluminium smelter in Indonesia, we bear a profound responsibility to enhance the global visibility, regional influence, and brand value of Indonesia's aluminium industry. Concurrently, we are fully committed to upholding the highest quality standards for our primary aluminium and driving continuous improvement in our future high-value-added products.

Furthermore, the IMP Industrial Park has driven extensive initiatives in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. We are confident that Indonesian aluminium will play a pivotal role and make a substantial contribution to the global aluminium industry in the years ahead.

AL Circle: If Hua Chin receives LME approval, it could become one of the few Indonesian high-grade primary aluminium brands recognised for LME delivery. How could this strengthen buyer confidence in Indonesian aluminium ingots?

Hua Chin: Achieving LME deliverable brand status represents a multi-dimensional validation of an aluminium smelter’s capabilities, especially accreditation for responsible sourcing. Our journey to secure this prestigious certification spanned nearly two years of rigorous assessment. We extend our sincere gratitude to the LME Committee for their support of the HuaChin brand. This milestone demonstrates that our brand successfully withstands the highest scrutiny in supply chain traceability and responsible sourcing

AL Circle: With the expansion in aluminium production, carbon emissions will rise. How is PT Hua Chin planning to address this? What measures do you already undertake to curb carbon footprint in the environment?

Hua Chin: Although HuaChin currently operates as a thermally-powered aluminium smelter, the IMP Park has undertaken substantial measures regarding clean energy to optimise our integrated energy system, specifically through the deployment of solar and wind power. In parallel, HuaChin Aluminium has robustly integrated circular economy practices into our core operations to enhance resource efficiency.  Concurrently, Huaqing has increased the service life of raw and auxiliary materials via a sequence of technical modifications, substantially lowering the SQ1 under CBAM.
