Aluminium rod inventory sees seasonal accumulation after the holiday, processing fee centre expected to gradually rise
China's aluminium rod production in September was 384,000 tonnes, with producer operating rate at 53.2 per cent. Both production and operating rate trended lower under pressure. The aluminium rod market remained severely oversupplied in September, with suppliers successively lowering processing fees to move accumulated inventory, but downstream buying sentiment stayed subdued due to absolute price levels. According to SMM statistics, as of October 9, days of inventories at domestic aluminium rod plants stood at 10.33 days, up 2.19 days from 8.14 days before the holiday (September 30). VMI Group raises aluminium winding wire capacity to 25,000 TPA
Vidya Metal Manufacturing Company Private Limited (VMI Group) has increased its installed aluminium winding wire and strip capacity to 25,000 tonnes per annum (TPA), up from 18,000 TPA in early 2025. The expansion follows the commissioning of its new facility at Bandapur, Rajasthan. Abhinav Goyal, Group Director, VMI Group, said, “ Every distribution transformer, every solar inverter and every motor that India adds needs winding wire, and aluminium is the metal that lets OEMs grow without their raw-material cost running away from them. ” The group also produces around 12,000 TPA of copper products across its seven plants. Guwahati police recover 100 kg aluminium wire, investigate theft network
Guwahati’s Basistha Police have recovered around 100 kilogrammes of aluminium wire during an investigation into alleged theft-related activities in different parts of the city. Two individuals in connection with the probe have been detained. According to police, the two were allegedly involved in the incidents reported from different parts of Guwahati. The Ohio project marks a real-world application of ELYSIS-produced aluminium, linking Rio Tinto’s smelting technology with Prysmian’s cable manufacturing. Prysmian and Rio Tinto are bringing low-carbon aluminium into the data-centre supply chain through a project for Amazon in Ohio, where Prysmian will supply electrical cables made using aluminium produced with ELYSIS inert-anode technology. The project connects Rio Tinto’s aluminium production technology with Prysmian’s cable manufacturing capabilities, providing a specific application for the companies’ work on lower-carbon materials. Vedanta Aluminium is equipping its specialised aluminium portfolio to meet rising demand from India’s power transmission sector as the country expands its grid to accommodate growing renewable energy capacity . Vedanta expects the transmission buildout to require application-specific aluminium grades with varying combinations of strength, conductivity and corrosion resistance, depending on terrain and operating conditions. China aluminium rod inventory stays high, processing fees edge up amid falling prices
According to SMM statistics, as of September 11, days of in-factory inventories at aluminium rod plants in China recorded 8.06 days, up 0.43 days W-o-W; the inventory ratio rose from 100.95 per cent to 102.86 per cent, up 1.91 percentage points. Looking at the trend over the past five weeks, inventories continued to consolidate at highs, with the inventory ratio staying above 100 per cent in the upper range for the year, as destocking and restocking alternated without a clear one-way trend. Over the same period, the combined operating rate of industry leaders in the aluminium rod sector recorded 72.50 per cent, down 0.46 percentage points W-o-W, pulling back slightly after stabilising at 72.96 per cent for three consecutive weeks, and overall remaining at low levels.
