

Together with the combined figures for the two-month period, the GACC also provided a monthly breakdown, Mysteel Global noted. China's alumina exports reached 188,051 tonnes in January and 146,434 tonnes in February, down 4.8 per cent and 29.3 per cent on year, respectively, the GACC data showed.

Exports in February were lower than those in January, mainly due to disruptions during the nine-day Chinese New Year holiday over February 15-23, Mysteel Global understands.
By destination, Russia, Taiwan, and South Korea were the top three overseas buyers of Chinese alumina during the January-February period, accounting for 91.6 per cent, 1.4 per cent, and 1.3per cent of China's total exports, respectively, according to Mysteel Global's calculations.

In contrast to the decline in exports, China's alumina imports surged by 469 per cent on year to 441,417 tonnes over January-February, the GACC data showed. As a result, the country was a net importer of alumina, with the net import volume reaching 106,933 tonnes, compared with net exports of 327,288 tonnes during the same period of 2025.
On a monthly basis, China imported 260,405 tonnes in January and 181,012 tonnes in February, representing on-year jumps of 625.5 per cent and 334.2 per cent, respectively.
By origin, Australia, Indonesia, and India were the top three suppliers of China's imported alumina during the two-month period, accounting for 77.7 per cent, 14 per cent, and 6.3 per cent of the total.
