World Primary Aluminum production up by 5pct in Jan-Jul 2011

The latest Primary Aluminum production numbers released by International Aluminum Institute suggests that the production increased by 5.5% in the January to July 2011 period. The total Primary Aluminum production stood at 24.94 million tonnes in January to July 2011 as against 23.64 million tonnes in January to July 2010.
A large chunk of the rise in primary Aluminum production was due to increase in production in GCC and Gulf region. The production in this region was 1.96 million tonnes up 32% from corresponding period last year. Increase of 171000 tonnes was also noted from West Europe. The total production in West Europe was 2.34 million tonnes as against 2.17 million tonnes.
