According to the recent data revealed by the International Aluminium Institute, world primary aluminium production in the second quarter of 2022 totalled 17.102 million tonnes, brought by the output of 5.651 million tonnes in June. IAI data also shows that the world's primary aluminium production in Q2 stood 3.24 per cent higher than 16.566 million tonnes in Q1 2022 and 2.79 per cent more than 16.637 million tonnes in Q4 2021.

The above data represents that the global primary aluminium output in 2Q2022 grew quarter-on-quarter after a dip in the previous three-month time. However, world primary aluminium production in June recorded a month-on-month drop of 3.05 per cent from 5.829 million tonnes, following M-o-M rise in May by 3.68 per cent from 5.622 million tonnes.
Total production across the globe during the first half of the year came in at 33.668 million tonnes, slightly down by 0.12 per cent from 33.708 million tonnes a year ago.
China, being the world’s highest producer of primary aluminium, churned out 3.333 million tonnes of the metal in June 2022, bringing the total production to 10.090 million tonnes in the second quarter of 2022. China’s primary aluminium production in June stood 3.22 per cent lower M-o-M than 3.444 million tonnes, but the output in Q2 recorded an increase of 5.21 per cent from 9.590 million tonnes in Q1 2022.
In the first six months of the year, China produced 19.680 million tonnes of primary aluminium in total compared to 19.602 million tonnes during the same period last year. That was a yearly increase of 0.40 per cent, shows IAI data.
In the Gulf region, the next leading primary aluminium producer, output in June came in at 498,000 tonnes, down by 3.30 per cent from 515,000 in May 2022 but up by 5.06 per cent from 474,000 tonnes in June 2021.
