With the end of the year 2021, the International Aluminium Institute data shows the world primary aluminium production in December stood at 5.622 million tonnes. That was an increase of 3.61 per cent month-on-month from 5.426 million tonnes. In October, the world primary aluminium production was at 5.689 million tonnes, meaning the output in November edged a downfall of 4.62 per cent.
In the last quarter of the year (4Q2021), the world primary aluminium production totalled 16.737 million tonnes, down by 0.95 per cent from 16.898 million tonnes in 3Q2021 and 0.50 per cent from 16.821 million tonnes in 4Q2020.
In the entire 2021, the global aluminium production amounted to 67.343 million tonnes, which reflected a hike of 3.09 per cent from 65.325 million tonnes a year ago.
The world’s daily average primary aluminium production in December 2021 came in at 181,400 tonnes, slightly up by 0.28 per cent from 180,900 tonnes in November.
China, the world’s largest aluminium producer, churned out 3.192 million tonnes of primary aluminium in December 2021, which was an increase of 3.33 per cent from 3.089 million tonnes in November but a decline of 3.38 per cent from 3.3 million tonnes in December 2020.
In Q4 2021, China’s primary aluminium production stood at 9.551 million tonnes, down by 2.21 per cent from 9.767 million tonnes in Q3 2021 and 2.11 per cent less than 9.757 million tonnes in Q4 2020.
From January to December 2021, China produced 38.920 million tonnes of primary aluminium, which reflected an increase of 4.24 per cent from 37.337 million tonnes during the same period in 2020.
In the Gulf region, primary aluminium production in December 2021 stood at 517,000 tonnes – 3.61 per cent more than 499,000 tonnes a month ago. On a year-on-year basis, output in the Gulf region in December edged 4.02 per cent higher than 497,000 tonnes.
In Q4 2021, primary aluminium production in Gulf totalled 1.530 million tonnes, up by 2.96 per cent from 1.486 million tonnes in Q3 2021 and 4.08 per cent from 1.470 million tonnes in Q4 2020. In the entire year, the output came in at 5.905 million tonnes – 1.23 per cent more than 5.833 million tonnes a year ago.
