
According to the International Aluminium Institute, world primary aluminium production in August 2021 amounted to 5.699 million tonnes, a decrease of 0.60 per cent from 5.733 million tonnes in July 2021. But on a year-on-year basis, the output in August stood 3.15 per cent higher than 5.525 million tonnes.

During January-August, world’s total primary aluminium production came in at 45.140 million tonnes, up by 4.75 per cent from 43.092 million tonnes during the same period last year.
International Aluminium Institute also showed daily average aluminium production in August 2021 stood at 183,800 tonnes, down by 0.59 per cent from 184,900 tonnes in line with the decrease in monthly output. On a yearly basis, daily production in August stood 3.14 per cent higher than 178,200 tonnes.
China, being the world’s largest primary aluminium producer, churned out around 3.299 million tonnes of metal in August 2021, which reflected a decline of 0.83 per cent from 3.327 million tonnes a month ago. On a year-on-year calculation, production increased by 3.77 per cent from 3,179 million tonnes.
In total nine months of the year, China’s primary aluminium production came in at 26.228 million tonnes, up by 7.31 per cent from 24.441 million tonnes.
The Gulf countries produced 504,000 tonnes in August compared to 496,000 tonnes in July 2021 and 484,000 tonnes in August 2020. That was a month-on-month increase of 1.61 per cent and a year-on-year hike of 4.13 per cent.
In Asia (ex-China), primary aluminium output stood at 384,000 tonnes, unchanged from July 2021 but a jump of 10.02 per cent from 349,000 tonnes in August 2020.
