Weekly update: Alumina price in China performed lower over the week; A00 aluminium price ended the week higher

The average spot price of alumina witnessed a downward movement over the week. After declining by RMB 18 per tonne on Friday, the price dropped by RMB 33 per tonne and RMB 27 per tonne to RMB 2370 per tonne and RMB 2343 per tonne on March 30 and March 31. The alumina price ended the week lower at RMB 2246 per tonne on Friday, April 3, down RMB 21 per tonne from Thursday.

On April 1, the prebaked anode price in the Central recorded a drop of RMB 170 per tonne to RMB 2,890 per tonne, after remaining flat at RMB 3,060 per tonne since March 2.  The markets in the southwest and northwest China declined by RMB 170 per tonne each to RMB 3,200 per tonne and RMB 3,430 per tonne. In the east, the prebaked anode price is currently hovering at RMB 2,830 per tonne.

Other raw materials like Bauxite (4.5≤Al/Si<5.5)Shanxi, Alumina (Imported), and Australian alumina FOB price are currently hovering at RMB 415 per tonne, RMB 2315 per tonne and USD237 per tonne as of Friday, April 3.

A00 aluminium ingot price started the week lower at RMB 11470 per tonne on Monday, March 30, down RMB 50 per tonne or 0.43 per cent. But the price witnessed an upward movement in the next two days. The aluminium price stood at RMB 11480 per tonne and RMB 11520 per tonne on March 31 and April 1. The price ended the week higher at RMB 11590 per tonne on Friday, April 3 after registering a drop of RMB 220 per tonne on Thursday.

As updated by Shanghai Metals Market, social inventories of primary aluminium across eight consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants, extended growth this week. Stocks stood at 1.676 million tonnes in the week ended April 2. That was up 9,000 tonnes compared to a build of 20,000 tonnes in the previous week.
