Vedanta smelter bags national award in energy efficiency

The aluminium smelter unit of Vedanta Limited at Jharsuguda has been bestowed the coveted ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ award in the ‘16th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management’ conducted by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). This is the third successive year that Vedanta’s Jharsuguda unit received this prestigious award.

The unit was adjudged as the “Excellent energy efficient unit” in General category (including metal & refinery), out of 127 shortlisted companies for final presentation. The parameters on which the award was bestowed were; the last three Energy Conservation initiatives, specific energy reduction trend, innovative projects that were carried out and Energy conservation approach & team work. The ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ award is instituted to create an opportunity to share Best Practices and technologies adopted in the field of energy efficiency over different category of Power, Cement & General (including Metals & Refinery).

Mr. Dayanidhi Behera, Head - Aluminium Smelter, Vedanta Limited, Jharsuguda said that efficient management of available energy resources has been one of the major thrust areas of Vedanta Limited’s operations across the world. This award reaffirms the company’s commitment towards adhering to greener business practices which are not merely energy efficient but further downscale the effects of their operations on the environment and its constituent natural resources.

Mr. Kamal Dewangan, Mr. Rabikant Sharma and Mr. Anamit deb Gupta received this prestigious award on behalf of the company, at a ceremony held in Hyderabad on 3rd September 2015.
