On World Environment Day, Vedanta Aluminium announced that its product line was verified by the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) International. The EPD-verified products from Vedanta included billets, Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA), wire rods, and other kinds of ingots. These goods are used in vital industries such as aerospace, infrastructure, automotive, electrical, packaging and other developing industries such as high-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, battery technology, and electric cars.

Mr Rahul Sharma, CEO, Vedanta Ltd – Aluminium Business said, “In a world rapidly transitioning to more sustainable approaches, the aluminium industry is poised for remarkable growth and innovation. As the backbone of a low-carbon future, aluminium’s exceptional properties hold immense potential for the energy transition, with Vedanta Aluminium as a key facilitator. The Environmental Product Declaration is a testament to our dedication to engineering sustainable products for our customers around the world. We always strive to develop innovative and environmentally conscious business practices, demonstrating our commitment to creating a sustainable future.”
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a globally accepted document that offers clear and scientifically validated information on the environmental performance of a product. It provides information on the environmental effect of the product throughout raw material extraction, manufacture, usage, and end-of-life disposal. A detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) was performed as part of the verification process, analysing issues such as energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste creation. Vedanta's key aluminium products fared well in these tests.
The business created its 'Restora' low-carbon, 'green' aluminium line to answer the rising demand for metals with a reduced carbon footprint. Furthermore, Vedanta Aluminium was the first in the Indian aluminium business to get applicable BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certifications for its diverse range of aluminium products.
Vedanta Aluminium has accomplished significant milestones in its steady path to improve environmental management practises, including a 24% decrease in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity in FY2022 compared to the 2012 baseline while expanding output by eight times. In addition, in FY23, the firm recycled 13.69 billion litres of water and conserved approximately 1.51 billion litres of water, adding to water-positive operations.
