Vedanta Aluminium reported record quarterly production across aluminium, alumina and value-added products in Q2 FY27, supported by capacity expansion and efficiency improvements.
Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, India’s largest aluminium producer, recorded its highest-ever quarterly aluminium production of 649,000 tonnes in Q2 FY27, up 5 per cent year on year from 617,000 tonnes in Q2 FY26.
Aluminium output also increased 3 per cent quarter on quarter from 632,000 tonnes in Q1 FY27. For the first half of FY27, production reached a record 1,281,000 tonnes, up 5 per cent from 1,222,000 tonnes in H1 FY26.
The company attributed the increase to new smelter volumes and efficiency improvements across existing production lines.
Alumina output jumps 37 per cent
Vedanta Aluminium’s alumina production recorded a sharper increase, reaching a record 895,000 tonnes in Q2 FY27, up 37 per cent YoY from 653,000 tonnes. Output was also 8 per cent higher QoQ than the 826,000 tonnes produced in Q1 FY27.
H1 FY27 alumina production stood at 1,721,000 tonnes, marking a 39 per cent YoY increase from 1,240,000 tonnes, which reflects the ramp-up and stabilisation of the company’s expansion circuit.
Value-added production also reached a quarterly record of 432,000 tonnes, up 31 per cent YoY from 329,000 tonnes and 11 per cent QoQ from 389,000 tonnes. H1 FY27 value-added production rose 22 per cent to 821,000 tonnes from 672,000 tonnes.

BALCO expansion lifts aluminium output
BALCO recorded a 19 per cent YoY increase in aluminium production to 178,000 tonnes in Q2 FY27, compared with 150,000 tonnes a year earlier. Production was also 6 per cent higher QoQ than the 168,000 tonnes reported in Q1.
The increase followed the commissioning of the second zone of BALCO’s 525 kA smelter potline, described by the company as the first of its kind globally outside China. The milestone has taken operational capacity to 50 per cent of the planned 435,000 tonnes expansion.
At Jharsuguda, aluminium production remained broadly stable at 470,000 tonnes, up 1 per cent YoY from 467,000 tonnes and 1 per cent QoQ from 464,000 tonnes.
BALCO’s power sales reached 491 million units in Q2 FY27, up 58 per cent YoY from 310 million units, although they declined 6 per cent QoQ from 520 million units.
Sijimali bauxite block gains approval
Alongside the production gains, Vedanta Aluminium has obtained Consent to Operate (CTO) for the Sijimali Bauxite Block.
The approval adds to the company’s ongoing capacity expansion and raw-material initiatives as aluminium production continues to rise.
Overall, the Q2 performance marks record quarterly and half-yearly aluminium and alumina production, with the ramp-up of new capacity and improvements in existing operations supporting higher output.
