Vedanta Aluminium has scaled up billet production at its Jharsuguda facility in Odisha, lifting total capacity to 830 KTPA and pushing the operation into the league of the world’s largest billet manufacturing sites. The expansion reflects the company’s continued shift toward value-added aluminium products while reinforcing supply for both domestic and global customers.Located at what is recognised as the world’s largest aluminium plant, the Jharsuguda operation has gained additional muscle with the commissioning of 250 KTPA of fresh billet capacity, built on an existing base of 580 KTPA. The increase is expected to improve product availability for industries that depend heavily on extruded aluminium and to further anchor the company’s presence in India’s growing downstream ecosystem.
{alcircleadd}Vedanta Aluminium’s billets are produced in diameters ranging from 5 to 12 inches and are used as semifinished inputs in extrusion processes that shape precision-engineered profiles. These profiles are widely applied across infrastructure, transportation, renewable energy, electrical systems, consumer goods, and packaging. The metal’s strength-to-weight ratio, recyclability, and versatility continue to support its adoption in sustainable manufacturing and contemporary product design.

The billet facility operates with advanced casting and homogenizing technology sourced from Wagstaff (USA) and Hertwich (Austria). With the latest expansion, Jharsuguda strengthens its global positioning while consolidating Vedanta Aluminium’s leadership at home, where the company already meets more than half of India’s domestic billet demand.
The site has also added a new 120 KTPA Primary Foundry Alloy (PFA) facility, expanding overall PFA production capabilities and complementing the billet portfolio.
Commenting on the milestone, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Vedanta Aluminium is committed to building a globally competitive, self-reliant aluminium manufacturing base for India. The accelerated expansion at our Jharsuguda operations is a crucial step toward achieving that vision. This scale-up enhances our ability to serve high-growth industries and reinforces India’s position as a rising force in the global aluminium landscape. We remain focused on delivering long-term value for the nation and all our stakeholders.”
