
The latest data from the US Census Bureau shows that domestic primary aluminium production in the United States in June 2021 stood at 72,000 tonnes. That reflected a decrease of 3,000 tonnes or 4 per cent from 75,000 tonnes in May. On a year-on-year calculation, the output in June stood 17,000 tonnes or 19 per cent lower than 89,000 tonnes.

The average daily production in June was 2,390 tonnes, almost flat compared to 2,410 tonnes in the previous month but 20 per cent less than 2,980 tonnes a year ago.
Total aluminium recovered from scrap in June 2021 was 267,000 tonnes, 4 per cent more than 257,000 tonnes in May and 12 per cent than 249,000 tonnes in June 2020. Of this, 141,000 tonnes of aluminium were recovered from new scrap and 127,000 tonnes from old scrap.
In June 2021, the average US spot market price of primary aluminium ingot was $1.38 per pound, slightly more than that in May 2021 and 74 per cent more than in June 2020.
Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States decreased to 110,133 tonnes at the end of June 2021 from 121,200 tonnes at the end of May 2021. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminium Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, stood at 12,299 tonnes at the end of June 2021 compared to 13,959 tonnes at the end of May 2021.
