
According to the latest report from US Geological Survey, the U.S. exports of aluminium scrap increased from 143,000 tonnes in March 2018 to 163,000 tonnes in March 2019, which indicates a 14 per cent growth year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, exports increased 9.4 per cent from February’s export volume of 149,000 tonnes.
Exports came in at 453,000 tonnes in the first three months of 2019, which was a 17.05 per cent increase from 387,000 tonnes in the first three months of 2018.

China, South Korea and India remained to be the top three aluminium scrap importers from the U.S. Exports to China came in at 113,000 tonnes in three-month period of 2019 as compared to 178,000 tonnes in three-month period of 2018. In March alone, exports volume stood at 38,700 tonnes, up from 37,400 tonnes in February.
The U.S. exports to South Korea registered 68,800 tonnes in the three months of 2019 compared with 49,700 tonnes in the same period last year. Exports volume stood at 24,900 tonnes in March. Exports to India soared 124 per cent year-on-year to 61,700 tonnes in January-March. The U.S. exported 26,100 tonnes of aluminium scrap to India in March 2019, from 11,400 tonnes exported in March 2018.
On the other hand, the U.S. imported 51,400 tonnes of aluminium scrap in March 2019 as compared to 60,700 tonnes in March 2018. Total imports stood at 150,000 tonnes during January- March.
